History of Hotel Berlin, Berlin

Berlin looks back on a unique history, experiences an exciting present and strides towards a promising future. With its long history, its central location and its real enthusiasm for hospitality, our hotel is an integral part of the personality of one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

The original Hotel Berlin was opened in 1958. Located on the „Insel der Freiheit“ („Freedom Island“), as West Berlin used to be named. Our hotel was considered a business leader and a cultural reflection of the West Berlin attitude to life. The Lützowplatz hotel accommodated state guests, famous national and international artists, actors, musicians and many other celebrities of public life. They visited Berlin and sent the Cold War into oblivion. For many years they have contributed to overcoming the division of Berlin – firstly emotional and finally with the fall of the Wall.

Over the years our hotel grew to be one of the biggest hotels in town. With over 700 state-of-the-art  rooms and suites, several restaurants and bars and with one of the few garden restaurants in town as well as the unique and outstanding conference and event centre, this hotel has always been a benchmark within the regional and nationwide hotel business.
